    Indianapolis Marathon

Did anyone run the Indianapolis Marathon over in Lawrence?  If so, how did it go ?

    Re: Indianapolis Marathon

I ran the 5K portion of it, and it seemed very disorganized, as if the 5K was an afterthought.  A lot of the runners, myself included, were not sure where the start line was and even when the race had started.  Is this common for shorter runs in larger events?  I'm fairly new, and my only other run was a 5K race not a mix, so maybe this is the expectation for a small 5K in such a large event, please advise.

On the other hand, the larger event looked fantastic from the starting line.  It seemed very organized, the volunteers had everything set up and were helpfull.  They delayed slightly due to traffic and wanting all the runners to get there which is very considerate.  Hopefully, someone who ran it will give a more comprehensive race report.  I read one on runnersworld and they reported that it had some tough hills around miles 9-11.  I think it's great that the Athletic Annex, Cardinal fitness, the city of Lawrence and all the people who put time and effort into this event are willing to do so.  I'm looking forward to doing the half next year, I just may not be back for the 5K if I haven't gotten to that level yet.

    Re: Indianapolis Marathon

I think the 5K mixed in with the other events (full, half, relay) probably made it a less than desirable experience.

I ran the full and was pretty pleased - though the delayed start is never fun, but hey its alright.  There were some decent hills, especially right around mile 10-11 where a lot of people around me were walking, but I definitely recommend trying the half or full next time!

The course is great for spectators for the half or the first 1/2 of the full - the 2nd half of the full was a bit lonely since it is a long out and back, although there were still some great people out there watching and cheering us on.  All in all I think they put on a pretty good race.

    Re: Indianapolis Marathon

It was a nice event, as usual. I run the full marathon and the weather was nice, just a tad windy. The fall foliage was pretty. As the previous post says, the second part is a little worse than the first, particularly when getting out of the park (between miles 14 and 24), but I still highly recommend the race. There were a few glitches, like water on only one side in the in and out part, but also a few improvements compared to previous years (better crowd control in the second pass of the loop, tents for eating after the race). I liked running on the trail in the way back from the turn-around point. Overall the experience was very satisfactory.
