Race Information: In 1804, Lewis & Clark departed the riverbank in St. Charles amid cheers from the many citizens lining the banks. Gone two years and four months, the Discovery Expedition traversed the wild, largely unknown Missouri River Valley and western territories, scaled the Great Divide, and reached the Pacific.

On September 13th, you too, will be cheered as you explore the Missouri River Valley. You will travel back in history as you cross the Missouri river, travel through historic St. Charles and navigate the abandoned railway that is now the Katy Trail. You will return to the very campsite where Lewis and Clark started triumphant! Runners in the full and half marathons share the same starting time and location, at 7:15 AM at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on the eastern side of the river in Riverport. From there, participants make their way from Riverport into Earth City, running along wide city streets. After the portion of the course through Earth City, participants then head onto Highway 370, across the Missouri River into St. Charles, getting their best view yet of the city's riverfront along the water as they hit the bridge and make their way over. After crossing the bridge and entering the western side of the Missouri, participants run through a combination of both open greenspaces and wooded areas of the river floodplain, taking runners past city parks and through the section of town known as Frenchtown before hitting the finish line at Frontier Park, located on Riverside Drive overlooking the flowing waters of the Missouri River. Those running the half marathon finish here, while the full marathon participants soldier on for another 13.1 miles along the Katy Trail, for an out-and-back stretch that brings them back to the park and lets those who've just finished the half cheer on their compatriots on the way in. At the close of the race, organizers will host a post-race party at Frontier Park, with plenty of music and refreshments. Those running the half marathon are limited to four and a half hours to finish their race, while those running the full marathon are limited to nine hours.
