10/5/2018 Update: The 20 mile bus from downtown Indianapolis will now drop runners off at the Whole Foods at Clay Terrace instead of the Lowes on 146th St. and Lowes Way in Carmel due to nearby road construction!!!

Are you planning on running a fall marathon or running or walking a half marathon? Complete your longest training run or walk with us! On Saturday, October 13, 2018, Indy Runners will be holding our annual "Run the Monon" event. There are two available distances: 20 miles and 11 miles. Participants will meet downtown as indicated below, then board buses to take us to the starting locations: Lowes at 146th St. and Lowes Way in Carmel Whole Foods at Clay Terrace (location change!) for the 20 mile run and 75th St. for the 11 mile run or walk. Both runs and the walk will head south on the Monon Trail then finish downtown at the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Fitness Plaza, where we will enjoy lunch. The ACSM is only a couple blocks from where we load the buses. Note: This is NOT a race, but rather a chance to get in your longest training run or walk with a group of friends.


For the first time we are making OPTIONAL shirts available for purchase. For only $16, you can purchase either a technical or soft/blend short sleeve Run the Monon Indy Runners or Indy Walkers t-shirt while registering for the event. The shirts will be available for pick-up at Run the Monon but must be purchased by TBD.

FREE Parking will be available at the Gibson Building in their East Lot (easiest entry off of Michigan St. just west of Illinois St. in downtown Indianapolis. This building is home to Sahm’s Tavern and is located at 433 N. Capital Avenue. Please note that there are no restrooms at the downtown meeting location. Please plan accordingly. However, a restroom will be available at the 20 mile drop-off point. Note: There is no port-potty available at the 75th St. drop-off point this year for the 11 mile run or walk, but within 1-mile you are in Broad Ripple with potential options at runner-friendly stores close by if needed.


School bus20 mile runners and 11 mile walkers will need to arrive by 7:00 am to check-in and load the buses. The buses will leave at 7:30am sharp! 11 mile runners should arrive around 8:30 am. Their buses will return from dropping off the 20 mile runners and 11 mile walkers then leave the parking lot around 8:45 am.


20 milers will be bused to the Lowes in Carmel at 146th and Lowes Way Whole Foods at Clay Terrace (location change!) then run east over to the Hagen-Burke trail by the large Carmel Water Tower. The run will start at approximately 8:00 am.

11 milers will be bused to 75th St. and the Monon Trail. The walk will start at approximately 7:45am. The run will start at approximately 9:00 am.


Here is the expected route.


Both 20 milers and 11 milers will finish at the American College of Sports Medicine Fitness Plaza located right off the downtown canal. Indy Runners will have boxed lunches for all Run The Monon participants and members, so even if you are not running, we’d love to have you come out and eat! We will begin eating around 11:00 am. (The ACSM Fitness Plaza is about 2 blocks from the parking lot).

COST (to help cover the cost of buses, food, etc.)

  • $15: Indy Runners, Fishers Running Club, and Carmel Runners members (includes run and lunch)
  • $30: Non-member (includes run, lunch, and Indy Runners club membership good through the end of 2018)
  • $10: Lunch only (Indy Runner or non-Indy Runner)

Current Carmel Runners members must enter the coupon code distributed to their club to receive the $15 rate. We reserve the right to verify club memberships (Indy Runners, Fishers Running Club, or Carmel Runners), so please be honest about whether you're a current club member. Not a member? We need a handful of folks to help us staff a couple water stops along the route.  We tend to rely on those who are already tapering for their race (or maybe those who are coming back from an injury) but it's definitely a fun time seeing everyone even if you just feel like coming out to help.  You can have lunch (we cover the cost!) with everyone at the ACSM afterward too.
